C.A.P

1.Clarity
For most of the pieces, if not all, the literal, stylistic and thematic messages I feel are clearly and efficiently presented. The first assignment, Gestalt I feel was one of the most clear messages that I did for this section of the blog. There was an obvious theme in my first picture with the row of suns, clouds and lightning bolts that referred to the weather. Whereas the second Gestalt picture represented an “X” by the connection of the arrows that were formed in a way in which the eyes make the connection on their own. I think the message for the Gestalt pieces are both working towards the same overall message and goal which is to allow your mind to unravel while your eyes pick up on the empty spaces and connect through process of the viewer. There is always room for misinterpretation of I believe in these messages. I feel this way because everyone has different views and outlooks on life and how they view the world. For the first picture of Gestalt there is defiantly a fighting message for attention because the viewer might not be sure as to which line to focus on or what the overall meaning could be conveying. I think for this particular piece, it is as simplified as possible and if it was changed, I don’t believe the impact would be so different.
Another assignment that I believe has a clear message presented is legibility and text safe areas. For this assignment I chose to do a beach background and had to find a way to match the text to the beach. “When the content of a backdrop is visually active, additional measures may be needed to give the viewer’s eye a change to find and read the type. Larger, bolder fonts may do the trick.” (P 180) I feel that the overall message and goal of this particular assignment is relaxation. I think that there is very little room for misrepresentation in this picture because the message is so simple and easy to identify with. Because of the simplicity, there are no messages fighting for attention here which I believe really represents clarity.
Lastly, I wanted to focus on the assignment fonts and images. This was the last assignment that I had and I’m glad it was because by that point I had learned so many other techniques and ways to show and reflect different aspects of things that this assignment ended up being relatively simple as well but showed I believe the most clarity. This was a thematic piece and I felt was very well represented. It was almost like an advertisement or an icon for a store that I wanted to convey. The goal here was to match the icon that I picked which was a musical note and make it into my own and add wording to match the flow of the note. There really is no room for misrepresentation in this piece just because it is so simple and clear single message which is a great way to exemplify clarity.

2.Audience
For audience I wanted to focus on one assignment in depth to answer all of the evaluation questions. I chose emotional design because this activity was the most challenging for me. The purpose of this assignment was to design a poster that would convey an emotion through an object. We chose an animated car to be our object and the emotion we picked was happiness. The target audience for this piece would most likely be children since the car is animated. The client, I believe would feel that their primary audience would be the same because the car is pleasing to the eye of a younger generation. The visual tastes of this demographic segment are how we tried to give the car human-like characteristics. Any type of bright and vibrant colors would draw the target audience to our piece. As I collaborated with a partner for this assignment we tried to match the colors of the different parts of the car to what a human would look like. For example, the tan color for the body of the car, the green headlights to represent the eyes and a red bumper to represent lips. If this car were a person, I image that it would look the same way. The tone of the concept that we created should be very light hearted, friendly and playful if it is to be well-received by young children which would be represented the same if the car were an actual person. The lingo that this target audience would respond to would most likely be happy music, laughter and simple phrases from the car if it were to have a certain ‘lingo’. I think children would enjoy this car based off the tone and attitude that I would want it to represent because it opens to the door for children to want to be happy and make a new friend. I don’t believe that this piece talks down to the target audience simply because of their age. Now if the target audience were college students, then yes because the animation and simplicity of the lingo that I would want the car to embody would talk down to college students. This poster can provide comfort to younger children as a means of friendship and adventure. I feel that this design is something that has already been seen before like off of the movie “Cars” but is different in its own way.

3.Purpose
For this section I really wanted to pick an assignment that was most purposeful for me which was the last assignment, fonts and images. This piece is supposed to represent a logo or symbol for a store. I would say isn’t no necessary meant to sell a product but more for advertising purposes. I used a musical note and ‘MARYS MUSIC’ along to the side to represent of my Aunt Mary was to have a music store. As Krause points out “Crop to improve compositional considerations such as the relative positioning of focal points, spacing and balance.” (P 192) This is exactly what I did to make the letters flow with the music piece and make it very pleasing to the eye. Since she is a music teacher I thought it would be a fun assignment to visualize. The product that is being promoted in this particular piece is music which can range from actual voice to a variety of instruments. I would say the purpose of this piece is to more inform viewers that persuade because the image is meant to get the message out there that this particular store is in existence. I have not really discussed the purpose of this with my client or director but I image she would feel somewhat similar while playing devil’s advocate of things I could improve on. I do believe that the purpose of this piece has been narrowed down and given the attention needed to exert as much power as possible for the time being. As I said before though, there is always room for improvement and ways to enhance and make something better. As of now though I feel as though I have the pieces needed to have a eye catching logo but contact information and an address would be needed to have a more focused presentation and fulfill the viewers needs.
